Fashion has always been important to Americans and this is reflected in the history of the American cowboy hat. A felt cowboy hat was first made popular at the turn of the twentieth century and quickly became a staple part of the men’s dress code. Originally a felt thin cowboy hat, the straw cowboy hat is now a high-crowned, wider-brimmed, round-topped hat most commonly referred to as the classic cowboy hat. Today, however, it is commonly worn by most people and isn’t particularly related to any one single group of people, especially those who don’t identify themselves as cowboys.
